Quantum Computer in a Nutshell (Documentary)

Published on Oct 11, 2014 649,924 views

The reservoir of possibilities offered by the fundamental laws of Nature, is the key point in the development of science and technology. Quantum computing is the next step on the road to broaden our perspective from which we currently look at the Universe. The movie shows the history of progress in this fascinating field of science, introduces the most promising models and algorithms, explains the advantages of quantum computers over classical solutions, and finally presents wonderful people thanks to which the quality of our lives is constantly being improved.

Even if you don't want to understand the video, please watch till the end at least to realise how big is the human thirst for knowledge.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that all of the necessary information about the authors who were kind enough to share their work, are displayed in the end credits.

  • damen whelan
damen whelan 3 года назад @Richard You are correct. The values in this instance are. Signal:means yes.... or on. No signal: means no.... or off. In the single qbit the values are in both positions, called a "super" position. Super like superbatural. Very unusual but not abnormal. The return in this instance can not be both values. But must return either 1 or 0. In a more complicated system 01 to 10 has many variants and possible corresponding returns or even no corresponding return.
  • Richard
Richard 3 года назад +chraso I do not claim to be an expert on the matter, but i assume the following: If you treat the problem you are trying to solve as a black box, which has a certain outut for a given input, putting in a Qbit of information would result all the outcomes corresponding to those possible states of the electron (or energy flow direction). By taking the complete set of results and searching for a specific eigenvalue unique to your desired solution, you will then find the corresponding parameters in your black box for this to be true, and thus finding the solution to your problem. Correct me if i'm wrong ^^

pihi42 4 года назад When first classical computers were developed, the thinking was that there is not many problems we can apply them to. Perhaps quantum computers will bring completely new areas of human interest we currently have no idea of. But FIRST we have to build them. And then learn how to 'program' them - but I think 'programming' will be replaced by a whole new concept, just like arithmetic was replaced by programming in the 1950's.
  • Mike Golf
Mike Golf 3 года назад according to Veritasium a computer with 300 qbits can process the entirety of the universe, they built a computer with 512 qbits... for an advanced research. Roughly speaking if the military is 20-30 years ahead of civilian technology they have some pretty advanced computers. There is now a machine that can run crysis in real life settings by harnessing the universe...mind blown

  • DollTron69
DollTron69 3 года назад It would require as much energy as there is in the universe, you can't create a universe inside a universe in any real sense. HOWEVER...if you made all observations "real" and made non-observations just calculations then the environment would save energy, so for example ...I look at the moon and it's real, when I look away from the moon it's just a calculation/probability, that could work because the universe you create from a computer would have to be very energy efficient and it couldn't have too many users/observers...ideally just one user. A single user is easy to fool since the whole program could have an illusion of depth but the user will never personally observe those things (like I can see the moon but I'll never go there so it doesn't have to be rendered fully).

  • xWHITExEAGLEx
xWHITExEAGLEx 4 года назад @Helghastl33t Yes, what they mean is you could give every particle a name, a number, store a list of them in a quantum memory device, and a quantum processor could sort through that list to find the name you want in a single operation.
  • Helghastl33t
Helghastl33t 4 года назад I can, its called reality and its all around you. For you to do a simulation like that you would need a quantum computer that is equally complex and has as many particles as your virtual world, you would also need sufficient memory to translate that data into pictures. So don't count on it :P When they say the system has more possibilities then there are particles in the universe this is very misleading. Because it suggests that you can now recreate the universe particle by particle in the computer. This is not the case because the universe is filled with particles that can have many many many many states and that all interact. The number of possible states for the universe still vastly outweighs any computer you could possibly build.
