MONEY SAVING TIPS: How I save $14,000 a year 💰 (minimalism + simple & healthy living)

Published on Jul 7, 2018 1,394,480 views

Saving money doesn't have to be hard. Little changes to your lifestyle can really add up. In this video, I share 20 things I have changed over the last 5 years as I have transitioned from a maximalist lifestyle to a more simple and minimalist lifestyle.

I've made these changes slowly and they haven't felt daunting. These are based on my personal experience and I do recognize that these tips will not be relevant for everyone.

I live in an expensive city and things really add up - if you live in a less expensive place, you probably won't spend that much in the first place. Take what is relevant from this video and feel free to ignore the rest! I'm not telling you what to do - just sharing my experience. 😀

  • La Margot
La Margot 11 месяцев назад My husband didn't LIKE eating out and we didn't always have a lot of cash to treat everyone (four children), so we used to go out for DESSERT, not dinner. Same fun experience, not nearly as expensive. Even now when friends ask me out to dinner, I suggest dessert if I don't have such a get-together in the budget.
  • Sandy Cakes
Sandy Cakes Неделю назад You just reminded me of good times, though then, they were tough times. I would do the same thing with my son when he was little. We'd turn it into a mom-son date. I'd set a budget and that's how we'd pick as to where to go. He'd go online and check out different dessert menus and would come up with new location suggestions and dessert ideas. If there was something that he wanted/somewhere that he wanted to go that was beyond the budgeted amount, he'd offer to pay the difference out of his allowance. Now he's fled the coop, is in the Army, is on his way to Poland, and is the only one in his circle that is not indebted and that has surplus in his account. I AM SO PROUD OF HIM. PARENTS: they're watching (kids) even when we're not aware and our tough times just might prove to be a blessing.

Every Sunday we go out for a icecream cone and a park walk ;) or if the weather is bad one of the adults buys a lil bucket and we make our own which is even cheaper than going for a single scoop with the family, and kids like it even better if they can watch a family movie together with their parents. In the winter time it is hot chocolate and snow fight or sliding of the hill in the park. And then if there is no snow there is either coco at home and a movie and moms bake a cake or make homemade delicious popcorn in a pot. Yey best time of my childhood and so much fun!

There are lots and lots of YouTube tutorials showing how to make a good cup of coffee - some better than others I should add. I use all sorts of methods from the French Press; Filter; Moka; but my all time favourite is the old fashioned Perculator. I also own a fancy Nespresso machine, which makes good coffee too, but I hate the waste of all those capsules even though I can bring them to the recycling bank. • Jessi - Kiji Art
Jessi - Kiji Art 7 месяцев назад I had a coffee addiction, too! But mine was a general coffee problem; mostly iced coffee from Jack in the Box and frappes from McDonald's, since I don't have a nearby Starbucks. Even $1 gas station coffee adds up, though, and people don't seem to realize that. I got a Keurig K-mini and a reusable pod (I don't like the wastefulness of the tiny, single-use plastic of the usual pods). I loooove it and have had it for about 9-10 months without any issues, and I stop contributing so much waste, plus I get fair trade, shade-grown coffee and that makes me feel better. <3 Cheaper in the long run and better for the environment.

J J 4 месяца назад At all times... Budgeting and living within your means is good, but sometimes, sometimes you REALLY DO NEED MORE MONEY and may consider getting a second income. In my case i was budgeting and trying to live within my means and keep my receipts and review them and cut back but the real problem was that i lacked the actual supplemental income i have now. AND i live within my means. So now i am wiser and hopeful and happier and able to shoot for goals to pay off loans. BTW if you ever have to apply for a loan which i never suggest, upon your first payment in person, ask the loaner to put your payment towards principle not interest.

Annette70able 11 месяцев назад I reduced my worktime, but the worst I ever got was a friendly tease. I also think, that those bullies are only jealous. You have more time to yourself, less stress and are more relaxed. Also I assume, that you can afford it financially and they would certainly never be able to do that. In one ear, out the other and enjoy.your Freedom!! I am sure, you deserve it, though I don‘t know you.😁

manic hairdo 11 месяцев назад I decided to use up all the face and body lotions, creams, perfumes etc that I had before buying any new tubes, tubs or jars. I now buy only the body products I really love the scent of or the most effective ones. I used to have a large drawer full of stuff not knowing if it had gone beyond its use by date...I only buy products with a use by date.

Amanda 8 месяцев назад I am currently doing this with hair conditioners. I have very fine textured hair, so I buy conditioners for extra volume. Some didn’t live up to the promise, so I stuck them in the cupboard and bought something else. I am now working my way through those conditioners on the days I know I will be home and I’m not going to really style my hair anyway.

  • SilverAspen1
SilverAspen1 5 месяцев назад (изменено) @Ankaarin just found your note:) I agree with u .. it depends on person. . Income etc etc.. but we want to keep it simple without elaborating on the topic.. and it is not that literally the money I save go in my savings account. . Not at all.. but I can afford to go on more "expensive " vacations since I am pretty skilled and don't have to go to hair dresser. . I cook instead of going to restaurants or buying fast food. . I don't smoke. . My husband neither. . We don't go shopping unless we really too. .. he fixes things around the house instead of calling a handy man. Etc etc.. but again. I agree with you. . It always depends on so many factors. .
