I Sent Fakes of Myself to Be on TV Around the World

We live in an era where people tailor themselves online, putting out an idealised version of themselves to the world. So why can't we do it in real life? In the wake of turning his shed into London's number one restaurant and getting a knock-off clothing brand into Paris Fashion Week, VICE's Oobah Butler decides to audition lookalikes and send fake versions of himself to TV and radio interviews internationally in a bid to improve his brand. But can he get away with it? How to Become TripAdvisor’s #1 Fake Restaurant

The Shed at Dulwich was the number one rated restaurant in London, with foodies, celebrities and bloggers trying to get a table. The main obstacle for them, however, was that it didn't exist. Over the course of 8 months VICE's Oobah Butler used an assault of fake reviews to get his 'restaurant' to the hallowed top spot on TripAdvisor. With his phone perpetually ringing, PR agencies begging to represent it and TV crews pitching shows, Oobah decided he had no choice but to open its doors for one night only. Here is Oobah's journey into a false reality that captured the world's attention. Hair Braiders In New Jersey Are At Constant Risk Of Losing Their Jobs (HBO)

Hair braiders in many states across the country are at constant risk of massive fines and losing their jobs. The primary reason: state cosmetology boards. Over the past several decades, these boards have lobbied to require licensing for braiding services, despite offering little training in the discipline or justifying why a non-invasive, non-chemical method needs to be so heavily regulated. Now hair braiders and politicians are fighting back against policies they claim disproportionately affect immigrant women of color. VNT goes to one of the states at the center of the debate: New Jersey. The Rogue Tesla Mechanic Resurrecting Salvaged Cars

Rich is a car enthusiast whose passion is to find wrecked Teslas, bring them back to life, and then share his repair adventures on his YouTube channel Rich Rebuilds. When he found out that Tesla would not service or support his salvaged cars, he took it upon himself to scour the internet and harvest working parts from several busted Teslas. He Frankensteined them together until his creations were fully operational, at a fraction of what it would cost to buy a new or certified pre-owned Tesla. Motherboard travels to Massachusetts to meet with the rogue mechanic leading a grassroots movement of DIY fixers who are taking back the right to repair the things they own. Buyers from Milan wanted his denim in their stores, the inner-circle wanted him at their showrooms and A-Listers partied with him at night. But the man doesn't actually exist.. does he? This is the time Oobah Butler faked his way into Paris Fashion Week.
